"Thank Me Later" Review
So here we are. Over the past year, hometown hero Drake has basically had the game wrapped around his fingers. He's won awards, had chart-topping singles, and several critical tv/video appearances... All before even releasing the first single off his album, yet alone an album. So does this debut live up to what we hoped for him? Well...
The project starts off on the slow side, which actually isn't a bad venture. The first three songs are that emotional Drake venting with hints of braggadocio (think 'Successful' or 'Say Whats Real'). Then comes 'Over' and what you would think to be the start of the traditional rap hits. However, it goes right back to the chill new brand of hip-hop Drizzy is known for, and he keeps it the till the end of the album.
This isn't a bad thing necessarily, because it actually fits him. It's seems like Drake is doing what's in his lane. There isn't an awkward moment when you thinking "Is this really the Degrassi guy??" cause everything here sounds genuine and right. I do wish there was some more lively stuff on here, but it isn't docking him too many points...
In the end, I think some might get tired of hearing Drake singing, but I don't deem this a major problem, nor do I think the variety of intensity (or lack there of) takes too much away from the project as a whole; I say 4 out of 5 bulbs...
